Katy Rico

Assistant Research Scientist

Katy is an Assistant Research Scientist studying the chemistry of trace elements in modern lakes, with implications for understanding the co-evolution of life and early Earth. Beyond her research, Katy is passionate about mentorship, service, and teaching. She has years of experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and participating in organizations and activities dedicated to improving diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the (geo)sciences. With the ETX Center, Katy uses her expertise in chemistry to aid in the development of REAL CHEM. Katy holds a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from DePaul University, and a PhD in Earth and Environmental Sciences from the University of Michigan.
